Homeward Bound” Opens ‘SNL50’ with Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon’s Heartfelt Performance

Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special kicked off with a poignant rendition of “Homeward Bound” by Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter.

Before performing, Simon shared a nostalgic moment, recalling his 1976 performance of the song with George Harrison on SNL. Carpenter humorously responded, “I was not born then… and neither were my parents.” Their duet, accompanied by Simon’s gentle acoustic guitar, set a heartfelt tone for the evening.

The star-studded special featured performances by Lady Gaga, Will Ferrell, Lauryn Hill, Miley Cyrus, Brittany Howard, Adam Sandler, and Paul McCartney.

Steve Martin delivered a humorous opening monologue, and the show included various sketches, including a mashup of popular characters and the return of beloved segments like Black Jeopardy.

The special paid tribute to SNL’s legacy with heartfelt musical performances and video montages, concluding with Martin Short’s sign-off and a final performance by Paul McCartney.

The evening was a mix of celebration and reflection on the show’s enduring legacy and the passage of time.
