Lakers vs. Mavericks: Luka Doncic Shines with Triple-Double in Showdown Against Former Team!

Just a few weeks since the blockbuster trade which traded Luka Doncic from the Mavericks to the Lakers, the super star received his first taste of revenge—and did not disappoint.

Playing his former team for the first time, Doncic had trouble with his shot but still provided a masterclass in three-way play, recording a triple-double in the Lakers’ 107-99 win against the Mavericks on Tuesday evening. The game stayed close until the last few minutes, but LeBron James took over control, scoring 16 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

A Shorthanded Mavericks Team Gives It Their All

Dallas entered the game without Anthony Davis, the LA native who went back to Los Angeles as part of the blockbuster trade for Doncic but was injured out of commission. Without their newest star, though, the Mavericks did not back down.

Kyrie Irving, once a teammate of both Doncic and James, starred, scoring 35 points to keep the contest alive for Dallas. Klay Thompson also set sail from deep range, going five-for-ten from three, as the Mavericks’ bench worked their magic to make the contest more than worthy.

The squads were tied at 91-91 with more than six minutes to play, but that’s when the Doncic-James duo came together. Even with their brief time on the court, the chemistry between the two stars was evident. Doncic’s upper-echelon playmaking ability created simple looks for James down the stretch, and the Lakers pulled away for their third consecutive victory.

Doncic Has the Last Laugh in First Meeting Against Dallas

Despite shooting only 6-of-17 from the field and 1-of-7 beyond the arc, Doncic still managed to make his presence felt, scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists, with three steals and two blocks. His control over the tempo and vision for his teammates were pivotal to the Lakers’ win.

With the victory, Los Angeles moved to 35-21, still gaining steam with their new roster. Dallas dropped to 31-28, praying to get their rhythm back once Davis gets back in action.
