Nearly 25 years after its original debut, Malcolm in the Middle is making an exciting comeback with four brand-new episodes.

A standout sitcom of the early 2000s, Malcolm in the Middle followed the adventures of child genius Malcolm as he navigated the chaos and comedy of life with his eccentric family.

Running for seven successful seasons from 2000 to 2006, the series became a cultural phenomenon, earning critical acclaim and winning seven Emmy Awards, including one for Best Writing in a Comedy Series.

Now, 18 years after the series finale, Malcolm in the Middle is returning with Frankie Muniz reprising his role as Malcolm. Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek will also return as his hilariously dysfunctional parents, Hal and Lois.

The revival was officially announced by Disney+ with a social media post declaring: “They’re back! Malcolm in the Middle returns with 4 brand-new episodes on #DisneyPlus.” Accompanying the announcement were heartfelt video messages from Muniz, Cranston, and Kaczmarek.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s see where Malcolm and his family are now,” Muniz shared.

The new episodes will follow Malcolm and his daughter as they get drawn back into family chaos when his parents demand his presence at their 40th wedding anniversary.

While it’s unclear if other original cast members, such as Erik Per Sullivan (Dewey), Christopher Masterson (Francis), or Justin Berfield (Reese), will appear, the return of the show’s creator, Linwood Boomer, is confirmed.

“With Linwood Boomer and the original creative team leading the charge, these new episodes will deliver all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans adored—plus a few surprises to remind us why this series is timeless,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.

While the release date remains under wraps, fans can gear up to reunite with one of television’s most unforgettable families soon.
