San Diego Shaken: Earthquake Rattles the Region – What You Need to Know
A magnitude 5.2 quake hit San Diego County on Monday morning that shook portions of Southern California, including Los Angeles, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported. The quake’s epicenter was approximately 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) south of Julian, and because it was shallow, the shaking was felt far and wide.
In San Diego, locals described rattling bookshelves, swaying light fixtures, and short periods of panic as the quake passed through the area. Although a jolt was felt, no major damage or injuries have been seen.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) confirmed the earthquake and issued a warning for potential aftershocks. On an X (formerly Twitter) post, EMSC said,
Aftershocks might happen in the upcoming hours/days. Unless unavoidable, avoid affected zones for your own safety, Take care and heed national authorities’ updates.
Interestingly enough, before the quake, Earth Prediction had given a “48-HOUR WARNING” for Southern California, predicting seismicity from April 14–16, probably on April 15, within 100 miles of Malibu.”.
“All earthquake models predict: A powerful earthquake is imminent in Southern California… Warn friends and relatives. #Earthquake #SoCal #Malibu #StaySafe,” the notice stated.

As officials continue to evaluate the situation, the quake soon generated buzz on social media. A number of users on X posted their reactions and accounts in real time:
