Tez Johnson’s Classy Post-Rose Bowl Moment with Ohio State QB Will Howard

Ohio State avenged its October loss to Oregon with a dominant 41–21 victory in the 2025 Rose Bowl, erasing the memory of their earlier heartbreak. The Buckeyes showed their mettle, leaving no doubt as they celebrated on the field.

And the postgame. Oregon wide receiver Tez Johnson stayed on the field and stayed silent while waiting for Ohio State quarterback Will Howard to complete a postgame interview. After finishing, Howard then walked over, acknowledging Johnson and showing appreciation with encouraging words and with congratulations.

“I respect you. Everything you have, you deserve it. Go win it all for your team. I respect you; they need you. Keep leading them,” said Johnson to Howard before the two exchanged a heartfelt hug.

Howard was sensational in the win, carving through Oregon’s defense with 319 passing yards and three touchdowns while not committing any turnovers. His chemistry with freshman standout Jeremiah Smith was on full display, as Smith hauled in two touchdowns and totaled 187 receiving yards.

For Johnson, the Rose Bowl was the final chapter of a stellar career at Oregon. He played in 25 games across two seasons and had 2,048 receiving yards and 20 touchdown catches. In the final game, Johnson was held to just five catches for 32 yards as Ohio State focused its defense on him, but he accepted defeat with class and humility, a hallmark of the sport.
