Trump Set to Make History: Sworn in as 47th U.S. President

Donald Trump will become the 47th President of the United States today. Inauguration is likely to take place indoors, given the very low temperatures that have been forecast in Washington D.C. That means it’s likely to be the coldest Inauguration Day since 1985.

The oath will be administered by Chief Justice John Roberts, and Donald Trump will take it in the Capitol Rotunda.

In his prepared speech for an excerpt of an inaugural address soon to be released, Trump would call for a “revolution of common sense.” He is set to sign executive actions, such as ending birthright citizenship and declaring an emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. He has also promised that on his first day in office, he would pardon some of the people who took part in the riot on January 6.

Just hours before Trump takes the oath, President Joe Biden issued pardons for individuals including General Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and several members of Congress who served on the January 6 committee.

The inauguration will be attended by numerous political leaders, former presidents, and influential figures like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful.”

As cold weather is forecasted, the ceremony will occur inside the Capitol Rotunda. This is a first since Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in 1985 was also forced inside by frigid temperatures.

Trump posted about the change of plans on Truth Social, citing the weather and adding that Capital One Arena would be available for viewing of the event as well as the subsequent Presidential Parade live. He intends to watch the swearing-in from there among the crowd afterwards.

The low 20s are forecasted for Sunday at noon, which is some 20 degrees below normal. Winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph will make it feel even colder, potentially dropping the wind chill to as low as 10 degrees during the day and into single digits after sunset. Although rain and snow are expected Sunday, Monday should be dry, but it will be very cold and quite windy.
